The Rescue SCG Approach
Advocacy efforts are structured into campaigns, Measures of Progress (MOP), projects and events to simplify youth involvement, increase impact, and maximize youth creativity. OOYA is designed to achieve policy and environmental change strategies from the MAPPS model. Measures of Progress ensure that youth involvement produces tangible and quantifiable impact on the advocacy effort.
Components of Full Advocacy Campaign Management
Rescue SCG can fullyimplement OOYA in your local community with a policy/environmental change representative from your team. Rescue SCG begins with branded campaign development that defines a SMART campaign objective, creates an appealing campaign brand name, and develops specific Measures of Progress that contribute to you MAPPS objectives. Next, RSCG trains youth on the campaign issue and how to get involved by recruiting mini-grant organizations throughout the local community.
Youth projects are coordinated and tracked through Helix™, an online project management system designed specifically to support the OOYA model. In a dual-adult advisor structure, RSCG Youth Advocacy Coordinator efficiently and cost-effectively guide youth on project and event planning online, while Mini-Grant Advisors provides direct, in-person support.
Branded Campaign – Your policy or environmental change issue is organized into a campaign with an appealing brand and SMART objectives.
Measures of Progress – tangible progress measures are identified to achieve your SMART objectives, such as petition signatures, support statements, surveys amongst others.
Mini-Grantees – Existing youth organizations are provided with mini-grants to participate in your youth advocacy effort, making youth recruitment and training quick and easy. Grantees receive awards incrementally based on milestones, ensuring successful implementation.
Youth Projects – Once trained, youth begin projects with the help of Rescue SCG youth advocacy coordinators. They log-on to the Helix online system and propose their project based on the established Measures of Progress. Youth finalize their plan with Rescue SCG youth advocacy coordinators online and implement the plan with the help of their local advisor.
Using this model, a single Rescue SCG youth advocacy coordinator has the capacity to guide 20 – 30 youth projects per month, resulting in a significant amount of advocacy in your community. Measures of Progress ensure that all youth advocacy efforts strategically support your MAPPS policy or environmental change strategy.
The OOYA model enables Rescue SCG to deliver a specific number of trained youth, completed projects and achieved measures of progress within a pre-determined budget. Rescue SCG’s years of experience developing and implementing the model ensures that your investment in youth advocacy achieves tangible policy change outcomes while creating lifelong anti-tobacco advocates.
